Seperti dikutip dari Digitimes, seorang sumber dari industri notebook menyatakan kalau Asus telah siap untuk menghentikan produksi netbook. Asus pun telah bersiap untuk segera keluar dari industri ini, setelah perusahaan asal Taiwan tersebut berhasil menghabiskan produk yang ada.
Jerry Shen, CEO Asustek, telah mengonfirmasikan penghentian produksi dari seri netbook Eee PC yang berbasiskan prosesor Intel Atom, seperi seri N2600.
Alasan penghentian produksi netbook cukup beragam. Selain lebih tingginya hasil penjualan produk tablet dan notebook, permintaan netbook di negara berkembang juga menurun drastis. Penjualan perangkat netbook memang didominasi pasaran negara berkembang.
Sebagai pengganti dari seri netbook ini, Asus berencana untuk mengisi pasaran netbook dengan perangkat tablet seri Transformer.
